After Friday s worse-than-expected U.S. employment data, the Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index slumped definitively out of its 2021 uptrend and is back to little changed for the year.
Metals
Iron ore is hot in more ways than one as futures leaped 10% in Singapore amid rampant Chinese demand and a surge in commodities. Market reaction to this news was bifurcated: Buy safety assets – bonds, gold, Bitcoin (?) Gold spiked.. Bitcoin jumped $2400 (not sure why this might be considered a safe haven by some).
Oil
Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 0.51 per cent to $68.63 per barrel. Pipeline HackCrude oil and gasoline rose at the start of the week after a cyberattack put the largest oil-products pipeline in the U.S. out of action. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.44 per cent higher at $68.58 per barrel.
